On Thursday, January 7th 2016, the chapter will hold a special meeting. We will be having a guest speaker who will be talking about his experience on the Rockwell B-1B Lancer program.
The special presentation by Bill Moran will include Wild Blue Yonder: Money, Politics, and the B1. A brief history of the development, problems in flight test, flight test accident, Time to Climb World Records, and what is going on today with the B1.
William "Bill" J. Moran Jr., Col (ret), USAF
During his 26-year career he flew the B-52G, T-37, FB-111A, F-111A/D/E and B-1A/B as an aircraft commander, instructor pilot, and evaluation pilot. He flew over 300 developmental test hours in the B-1 program at Edwards Air Force Base, CA and subsequently gained membership in the Society of Experimental Test Pilots.
He commanded the 46th Bomb Squadron, a nuclear certified B-1B squadron. His squadron achieved 12 "Time to Climb" aviation world records. Bill commanded the first three record-breaking flight.
He served as deployment manger for the B-2 at Strategic Command Headquarters, Offutt AFB, Omaha NE and head of the Strategic Concepts Policy branch at Pacific Command Headquarters, Camp Smith MCB, Honolulu, HI. His final assignment was as the Vice Commander of the Air Warfare Center at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, NV.
Upon retirement from the Air Force, he returned to flying as a Pilatus PC-12 captain for Alpha Flying Inc in Portsmouth, NH (Pease AFB). Bill was the wing commander of the New Hampshire Civil Air Patrol for four years. He is currently the NH CAP Chief of Aircrew Training, Director of Finance, Surrogate Unmanned Aerial System Sensor Operator, CAP aircraft instructor, and flight check pilot. Bill holds FAA ATP, CFIA, CFII, and MEI certificates/ratings.
Bill is member of EAA chapter number 1516 in Laconia, NH, and is married to Col Mary Beth Moran, USAF (ret).
